Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to Websummit. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit our website, contact us or enquire about our services.

1. Who we are and how to contact us

Websummit provides website and app development, hosting and related digital services. For personal information handled for our own business purposes, Websummit is the responsible party under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Send privacy questions or requests to developer@websummit.co.za, with “Privacy request” in the subject line, or call +27 11 794 2888.

2. Information we collect

  • Contact details you provide, such as your name, email address, telephone number and business name.
  • Enquiry and project details, including your requested services, business activities, domain name, website goals, page requirements, content readiness, branding, examples and preferred timing.
  • Correspondence and information needed to prepare proposals, deliver agreed services or manage a client relationship.
  • Technical information that website and hosting systems may record, such as IP addresses, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps and security or error logs.

You provide enquiry information voluntarily. Without the details needed to respond or carry out your request, we may be unable to assist. Please do not submit passwords, payment card details, identity documents or sensitive personal information through website enquiry forms.

3. Why we use your information

  • Respond to enquiries, prepare quotes and discuss project requirements.
  • Provide and support agreed services and communicate about your project.
  • Maintain business records, meet legal obligations and handle disputes.
  • Protect our website and services against misuse and investigate technical problems.

Depending on the circumstances, processing is based on your consent, steps requested before entering a contract, performance of a contract, a legal obligation or a legitimate interest recognised by applicable law. We use personal information only for appropriate, relevant purposes.

4. Who receives your information

Website enquiries are sent by email to our team at developer@websummit.co.za and tyrone@summitpromo.co.za. Authorised people handling your enquiry or project may access them.

Service providers involved in website hosting, infrastructure, email delivery and agreed project services may process information necessary to perform those tasks. We may also disclose information where legally required or necessary to establish or defend legal rights. We do not sell personal information.

5. International processing

Website infrastructure or service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where a transfer takes place, it must meet applicable legal requirements, including the safeguards or other permitted grounds set out in section 72 of POPIA. Additional privacy laws may apply depending on your location and the services involved.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Hosting systems and website features may use essential cookies or similar technologies to operate and secure the website. External websites linked from our portfolio use their own cookies and privacy policies.

Our website’s current application code does not include Google Analytics or Meta Pixel tracking. Offering analytics integration as a client service does not mean those tools are active on this website. If optional analytics or advertising tracking is introduced, we will update this notice and provide consent choices where required. You can manage cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may affect some features.

7. Marketing communications

Submitting an enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to marketing. Any electronic direct marketing must comply with applicable consent and existing-customer requirements. If you receive marketing from us, you can request that it stops using the unsubscribe method provided or by contacting us.

8. Retention and security

We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, an ongoing client relationship, applicable record-keeping obligations or the establishment and defence of legal claims. Retention varies by the type of information and circumstances; we do not apply a single fixed period to every enquiry.

Reasonable technical and organisational safeguards are used to protect personal information. Website form emails are submitted using authenticated, encrypted connections. No online system is completely secure. Where a security compromise requires notification, we will follow applicable legal requirements.

9. Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request confirmation of whether we hold your information, access to it, correction of inaccurate information, or deletion of information we are no longer entitled to retain. You may also object to qualifying processing, withdraw consent for future consent-based processing and object to direct marketing.

Contact us using the details above. We may need to verify your identity before responding and may need to retain information where the law requires it. Withdrawing consent does not affect lawful processing that took place before withdrawal.

If you believe your information has been handled unlawfully, you may lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator.

10. Children and third-party websites

Our services are intended for business users and are not directed at children. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorisation, please contact us.

Portfolio links and other external links lead to independent websites. This policy does not cover their content or handling of personal information; please review their own privacy notices.

11. Client projects and policy updates

This notice covers Websummit’s own website and business communications. Where we process personal information on a client’s behalf, the client’s privacy notice and our service agreement govern that processing.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. The latest version will be published on this page with its updated date.
